3 ways to decide if linkedin ads suit your business

3 ways to decide if LinkedIn ads suit your business.

The Pros and Cons of LinkedIn ads.

LinkedIn ads have been touted as an extremely effective way to get leads.  While this may be true, you’ll need to consider your unique circumstances before jumping onto yet another social platform.

Advertising is a fickle beast at the best of times.  You want to know that you’re getting a good return for your dollar, and yet that’s dependent on so many factors.

Your target market using LinkedIn ads

Pro: Laser sharp ad targeting.

Con: Not suitable for broad market segments.

LinkedIn has a reputation as a more professional social platform. As such, advertising on LinkedIn is more likely to reach an educated, specialist audience, with a probable higher-than-average income.

This crowd is ideal for B2B and service-based businesses.  If you’re selling custom prints to high school students, then LinkedIn ads will likely miss the mark for you.

Consider who your marketing needs to attract – who are the key decision makers for your target businesses?

One of the benefits of LinkedIn advertising is the way each user is required to list their job title and position within a business.  Because you can easily see a person’s job title, seniority, company name and size, you can gauge their position in the hierarchy.

So, if your business needs to reach the eyes and ears of an  HR department in the legal world, LinkedIn is your best bet.

You can target your advertising to within an inch of their desk, with a message that will resonate with their specific needs.  But, a large part of this process needs to be spent on educating and warming up the audience as to why they need you – simply pitching your services is likely to miss the mark.  Remember, LinkedIn is effectively an electronic version of networking, so you should consider presenting the value of your services in ads and the benefits for the recipient.

Your budget

Pro: Better quality leads.

Con: You pay more to reach those leads.

LinkedIn advertising comes at a higher cost compared with other social platforms, such as Facebook or Instagram.

The reason for this is the very same reason you can reach your target market so easily – the specific job titles and hierarchical listings in place.

Targeting with such laser accuracy comes at a cost, so know who your audience is first.

If you’re going to pay bigger bucks to reach those people, then you’ll want to trust they’re getting the message.  There’s little point outlaying extra money for specific job targeting if that’s not a key aspect of your own market.

Another reason for higher-cost advertising on LinkedIn is the broader variety of ad types.  As well as sponsored posts and sidebar ads, you can also opt for paid internal emails, with higher than average open and click-through rate.

Because these emails can be so strategically targeted, they can be useful for honing in on specific users.

Do LinkedIn ads suit your business?

The whole point of social media advertising is to gain and convert leads.  Yes, you might build brand awareness as part of the process… but brand awareness builds trust and trust makes more sales.

If your business would benefit from being able to knock on the virtual front door of your ideal client, then LinkedIn has a lot of pros.

If your budget doesn’t stretch that far, your market segment is broader, or you’re more of bricks and mortar type business, LinkedIn might not be your cup of tea.
